SchoolsMelissa ISD is recognized as an outstanding district and offers children the opportunity to learn in four campus environments.
Harry McKillop Elementary’s vision of “High Expectations for All” is the driving philosophy in everything we do. We are proudly named after a true American hero who exemplifies what it means to be a McKillop Cardinal! Our classrooms are learner centered with students being challenged in a positive, exciting, and supportive environment. McKillop Elementary believes in a multisensory whole language approach to language instruction utilizing phonics based instruction, as well as guided reading, literature circles, and writer’s workshop throughout every grade level. Our science and math programs are based on active, relevant, and real world applications and are aligned with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and National Science Education Standards using a STEM approach. This campus has a fully equipped science lab, literacy library, computer lab, and Outdoor Learning Center to further enhance the strength of our programs and to create dynamic learning experiences for our students.
Welcome to Melissa Ridge Intermediate School, home of the Cardinals! Our campus consists of about 430 fourth, and fifth grade students. Our vision of “Guiding students to reach their utmost potential” is the focus of our campus and is observed by teachers, students, and parents on a daily basis. The staff members at Melissa Ridge Intermediate are highly qualified and dedicated to meeting the needs of every learner. Differentiation is the key to academic success within every classroom. When students are struggling academically, they attend our Pyramid of Intervention tutoring sessions. During this time the teachers design their lessons to meet the needs of the individual students which target the specific areas that they need growth. We also support students with services in Gifted and Talented, English as a Second Language (ESL), and Special Education upon eligibility criteria being met. At Melissa Ridge, we understand that all kids learn differently and in order to reach them we must teach differently also.
At Melissa Middle School, our focus is not only to prepare students for higher education, but to instill values and self-knowledge that will serve each individual student well in life. Our campus includes about 320 seventh and eighth grades students. Our students are immersed daily in instruction that challenges them to think at a higher level. We emphasize hands-on learning opportunities, encouraging students to pursue their curiosity through inquiry-based instruction that focuses on problem solving and independent thinking. With every student having a device, technology is an important way teachers connect with students, individualize instruction, and extend the learning environment. It also allows students to work collaboratively with their peers and to be actively engaged in their own learning.
